WINTER ACTIVITIES

Inside Activity

Paper Snowflakes! Take a few coffee filters and fold them. Fold them again and again. With the permission of your parent, take your scissors and start cutting out half circles, triangles and curvy cuts into the folds of the paper. Slowly unfold your filter and you will discover a lovely snowflake!
Find a window in your house in which to tape these lovely snowflakes. Tip: Use an iron (on a low setting) and iron your snowflake before taping to the window. It will lay flat and look so festive for your neighbors and the people in your house.

Outside Activity

Winter is a season when the trees are resting. Have you ever looked up at the sky and noticed the lovely branches? They are bare and showing their true beauty! This activity needs to be done when it’s not too cold! Take a blanket and a sketchbook and pencil.
Lay on your back under a bare tree. Hold up your sketchbook and attempt to draw the shapes of the bare branches. Do it with a pencil quickly before you get too cold! Then go inside and take a paint brush and some nice dark paint. Be creative and take the sketch of these branches and create thin and thick lines. You can even create more branches to create your very own tree.
If you live where there are few deciduous trees, find a photo of a beautiful bare tree to complete this activity.
Another outside activity for winter is to PLANT A TREE! Planting trees are best done in late winter before spring. This is a grand idea! Generations to come with be thankful when they enjoy the tree that you planted.

TOGETHERNESS ACTIVITY

Winter is a season of many holidays! Holidays brings natural togetherness. Ask your parents if you could host a gathering in your home with some neighbors of friends. Make a plan to have some games or competitions.
Here is a competition game:
Put handfuls of random Legos into several small baggies. Each friend choose a baggie to start the competition. Set a timer for 10 minutes and see who can create the best “invention.” After the timer goes off, each person describe what their invention is and how it works.
If you come up with a great togetherness idea, please send it to me at beth@togethernesstown.com!
